There are some amazing bands and artists in the music world, but there are also some that are entirely underserving of the fame they receive. Overrated bands are often widely known for reasons other than their excellent musical talent, and it cheapens the music industry for everyone.
Read on to discover the 31 most overrated bands of all time, and who knows, you may discover some real music and talent along the way.
1. Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran is one of the most overrated artists of all time. To be honest, we aren’t even sure why or how he is famous. While some of his songwriting is decent, his voice is just average, and there are so many singers we love more. We honestly believe he got a lucky break to be able to climb above similar B-list artists.
2. Taylor Swift
Yes, we believe Taylor Swift is one of many overrated artists. While she has some good songs, the vast majority of her repertoire is just singing about breakups, which gets boring fast. And while we believe in waiting to find the ideal partner, at some point, you must agree that you might be the problem. Especially when you’ve dated some of the world’s most eligible men.

3. Prince
Let’s face it, if Prince hadn’t died, he wouldn’t even have a career in 2023. Prince was popular in his early days, but his fame started to wane in the early 00s due to songs that sounded the same and a lack of creativity in his lyrics. It was his death that put him back on the forefront of everyone’s minds and catapulted him to icon status.

4. Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow has been receiving awards left and right, and we can’t even tell you why. One of the most overrated artists, maybe ever, he has subpar talent at best, relying solely on his personality to get him fans, which we abhor when there are so many better rappers out there, like Nas.
5. Yung Gravy
Yung Gravy’s fame is solely based on the fact that he is attractive and has a large female following. Have you even listened to his songs? He doesn’t even sing or rap, he just rambles like an idiot, and that isn’t talent.
6. U2
U2 used to be a great band, but sometime during the early 00s, their love of money surpassed their love of music, leading listeners to feel betrayed. They slowly lost a lot of their audience over the years, but their diehards keep them going…why? We aren’t sure.

7. Nirvana
Nirvana only had a 7-year career, but the way some people fan girl over them would have you thinking they invented music themselves. While they had a few good hits like “Smells Like a Teen Spirit,” a large portion of their song catalog leaves much to be desired, and like Prince, we doubt they would be as famous if frontman Kurt Cobain were still alive today.

8. The Beatles
The Beatles are by far one of the most overrated bands of all time. While we see their purpose in the 60s, it’s been almost 60 years, and it’s time to move on. There are modern bands making much better music if only fans would shut off “Here Comes the Sun” and try something new.

9. The Eagles
We know we are going to get some kickback for this, but anyone who thinks The Eagles are groundbreaking has never opened a fortune cookie at a Chinese restaurant. Their lyrics take a solidified stance on absolutely nothing, and at this point, we would probably learn more from the fortune cookie.
10. Jennifer Lopez
No matter how much Jennifer Lopez we listen to, we just don’t understand her fame. She’s got an okay voice and some dance moves, but when you look at the bottom line, she clearly has very little talent. We aren’t the only ones who think so either, the show South Park made an entire episode centered around how JLo is overrated. And honestly, we prefer the South Park JLo to the real one.
11. Drake
Next up for the most overrated artists, we have Drake, who we aren’t even sure how he became popular. His songwriting isn’t even original, and he’s lacking the pure talent that other R&B artists, like Rihanna, clearly have. Honestly, we think Drake should’ve stuck with his acting career. Wheelchair Jimmy ftw.

12. Harry Styles
Harry Styles is one of our most overrated artists because we truly believe that without his looks, he wouldn’t even have a solo career. He started out with the band One Direction, whose music was exceedingly subpar, and his singing talent is meh at best. Sure, he writes some of his own songs, but lots of them are written for him, which is ‘yawn’ if you ask us.
13. Kanye West
We aren’t even sure how Kanye West still has a career. He isn’t a good singer, he’s only had flashes of greatness as a songwriter, and he isn’t even a nice person. Definitely overrated.
14. Beyonce
Beyonce is extremely overrated. If you look objectively at her career, much of it wasn’t even her own until she released Lemonade. While we love her voice, most of her fame comes from her looks and music that was purchased for her to perform, and we are over it.

15. Doja Cat
Doja Cat shouldn’t even be famous. Her vocals are terrible, and her songwriting is passable at best. In fact, we are pretty sure she is only famous for her creative style, so we think she would be better suited for a job in fashion design than on a music stage.
16. Alice in Chains
Formed in the 80s, Alice in Chains is a rock metal band that is better suited for the grunge and heavy metal genres. With many award nominations and only one win for their debut album in 1991, we aren’t sure why people are still talking about them as one of the greats. Plus, there are so many better bands out there in the same genre, namely Smashing Pumpkins.
17. Weezer
From a musical standpoint, Weezer is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Their sound is mediocre and their songs are uninspired. Plus, while they were good in the 90s, they have really degraded over time and don’t deserve most of the fame they somehow retain.

18. Guns N Roses
Guns N Roses became one of the popular rock bands due to how amazing their first album was. But after that, the only songs the band is known for are covers they did of other bands’ songs. “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Hair of the Dog” were all covers, and we don’t think a band should be famous for singing music written by other bands.
19. Aerosmith
Aerosmith is a memorable American rock band that was popular in the 70s and 80s, but to be honest, we don’t even understand why. Their tunes lack originality, and their lead singer, Steven Tyler, is the only part of the band that is even good.
20. Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath is one of the most overrated bands of all time, mainly because their music is so hit-and-miss. They either release an absolute banger or a song that even their biggest fans hate. No band this unreliable can be great, in our opinion.
Oh, and btw, Dio > Ozzy.

21. Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters had a few hits at best, and most of their music sounds the same. The only reason they are even prominent in rock history is because they were started by Dave Grohl from Nirvana, and frankly, we would have probably liked the band better if he had remained the only member.
Except for Taylor Hawkins. He was pretty rad. R.I.P.

22. Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam is one of the most overrated bands of all time. While they are considered to be one of the most popular rock and roll bands of the early 90s, we think much of their popularity was simply due to their timing. They were the first to hop on the grunge sound of the 90s, promoting it along with their political ideals, but their music really isn’t that spectacular or unique.
We think if you take away their strong alternative political stance, what’s left isn’t even a band.
23. Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Springsteen entered the music scene in the early 70s, and in our opinion, he should have left during the 80s or 90s at the latest. While he has an excellent stage presence, he is entirely too old to continue touring, and fans report his performances are now mediocre at best. It’s time to admit he isn’t worth the $400 concert ticket and move on.

24. Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band that we suspect wouldn’t even have a career if half of the band members hadn’t died in a plane crash in 1977. While their music was decent when they first began, they’ve never been the same, and their sound and lyrics have declined over the years. Their only current claim to fame is the plane crash, and that’s no reason to listen to a band.

25. ZZ Top
ZZ Top made our lists of the most overrated bands solely on the fact that their singer sucks. They have some decent musical talent, but the fact that they can’t get someone decent to sing tanks their songs. And lose the hats, seriously.
26. Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac is a sad excuse for a rock band and would be much better off if they stayed a blues band like they were in the ’60s. Not to mention, the only member of their lineup who is talented is their bassist, John McVie, who can do some serious riffs, but those alone don’t constitute an award-winning band.

27. Def Leppard
Def Leppard is a heavy metal band that is overrated due to the fact that we are pretty sure they’ve only released the same five songs over and over. Seriously, have you ever listened to their songs end to end? Once you get through their top hits, they all sound the same.
28. Elvis Presley
Elvis was cool in the 1950s, and while he will always have his place in rock history, he’s now entirely overrated. We agree with John Lennon: he was only good before he went into the Army. Honestly, we can’t believe people are still calling him the king.

29. Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi made our list of the most overrated bands solely because of the lead singer. While the band produced several above-average rock songs, Bon Jovi’s voice simply just doesn’t fit, and the songs really haven’t aged well. Can you even name one song they wrote beyond “Living on a Prayer?” or “Wanted Dead or Alive”? We didn’t think so.
30. Pink Floyd
The psychedelic progressive rock band Pink Floyd is definitely one of the most overrated bands of all time. While many praise their progressive sound over the years, almost nothing they wrote is memorable. Not to mention that while this band has been active since 1965, only five of their songs made it to the Billboard Top 100 hits, and most of them didn’t make it any higher than position 70. Lame!
Plus, they can’t even hold a candle to Led Zeppelin, which is the real hero in the psychedelic alternative rock genre.
31. Radiohead
Last on our list of the most overrated bands is Radiohead, and to be honest, we aren’t even sure why people are still listening to them. While they had a few hits (and a Grammy or two), their talent is entirely due to guitarist Jonny Greenwood and bassist Colin Greenwood, who are way too talented for the band who released their last hit over 15 years ago in 2008.
