How Did Taylor Swift Become Famous?

Taylor Swift was only 14 when she first burst onto the music scene, becoming one of those rare artists that was a massive hit from the moment she signed her first record deal.

In this case, it came in 2004 after she signed a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. The deal saw her already breaking records as she became the youngest person to sign an agreement in the company’s history. Two years later, she only continued that success when she became one of the first artists to sign with the independent record label Big Machine Records.

The first of Taylor Swift’s songs introduced to the world, “Tim McGraw,” shortly after, and while it wasn’t one of her highest charting hits, it was clear that this was one artist that the music world needed to keep an eye on.

Taylor Swift’s Siblings

Taylor Swift is the oldest of the two Swift children. Taylor Swift’s brother is actor Austin Swift, born on either March 10 or March 11, 1992, depending on what source you refer to.

Austin Swift is best known for appearing in the films Live by Night and I.T., both released in 2016. He hasn’t only delved into acting. He was also most recently a credited co-producer of the 2019 film We Summon the Darkness.

Who is Taylor Swift Dating?

There has never been a more loaded question than that of Taylor Swift’s tumultuous love life.

As of right now, the latest question of who Taylor Swift is dating has led to rumors of a relationship brewing between the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, although neither of them have confirmed the relationship. However, in a recent interview with The Pat McAfee Show, Kelce did comment on the growing rumors.

“It’s hilarious how much traction this (rumor) has actually got,” the NFL player commented. “Right now, it’s like an old game in school called telephone, where everybody’s just whispering in each other’s ear, just hearing some random stuff.”

So, does Travis Kelce like Taylor Swift? Of course. Kelce did attend her Eras Tour stops at Arrowhead Stadium, where he reportedly told her, “I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead, and you might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one is more lit.”

She supposedly didn’t have anything to say back to him, though. “She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal. But it was an unbelievable show.”

The rumors are only bound to continue, however, considering the blonde beauty was spotted at Arrowhead alongside Kelce’s mom during the Kansas City Chiefs home gave versus the Chicago Bears on Sunday, September 24. Ever since, several photos have been taken of Swift and Kelce spending time together outside the stadium, including ones of them holding hands and the singer kiss the tight end on the cheek.

Now that we have that current juicy relationship out of the way as we wait for confirmation, here’s the rest of the “Our Song” singer’s dating history. Let’s start with this. Who was the first celebrity Taylor Swift ever dated?

Taylor Swift’s first high-profile relationship was a quick one that left a lasting impression for a long time as she dated the middle of the Jonas Brothers, Joe Jonas, from July to October 2008. What fans remember most, however, is her interview on The Ellen Show not long after the pair split. The show’s host, Ellen DeGeneres, brought the relationship up, not realizing that the couple had since called it quits.

A clearly uncomfortable 18-year-old Swift responded, “That guy is not in my life anymore, unfortunately. That’s an ouch.” She recovered, though, getting sassy later. “Someday I’m going to find somebody really, really great who’s right for me … and when I find that person that is right for me, and he’ll be wonderful, and when I look at that person, I’m not even going to be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”

Not long after that interview, Taylor Swift was back on the dating scene. Who did Taylor Swift date at age 19? That’s a two-part answer. She briefly dated Twilight actor Taylor Lautner, who she co-starred alongside in the film Valentine’s Day a year after their relationship ended. That was one relationship that we know precisely what famous song resulted from it. Lautner revealed in 2016 that “Back to December” was written about their time together, particularly how things flamed out.

Swift also hooked up with another singer-songwriter, “Daughters” singer John Mayer, briefly from 2009 to 2010, when she was 19. The pair’s 13-year age group caused quite a stir throughout the press.

There were a few other rumored relationships throughout that time, including the late Glee star Cory Monteith and actor Jake Gyllenhaal, though neither lasted long if they were true.

Who did Taylor Swift date at 23 years old? Has Taylor dated an 18-year-old? Connor Kennedy is the answer to both of those questions. Their relationship was confirmed in July 2012 after photos of them kissing were revealed. While the relationship only lasted a few months, Kennedy’s grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, told People that Swift “is just spectacular. She’s just sensational inside and out.”

Considering the consistency of having many short-lived romances, many do start to wonder, what was Taylor Swift’s longest relationship? That would be her most recent with Joe Alwyn — the pair dated for six years, from 2017 until April 2023. Perhaps part of the reason it was her longest was because it was one that she was able to keep most private, which, let’s face it, is a big thing to be able to maintain when you’re as famous as Swift.

Another one of her longer relationships was with British DJ Calvin Harris for about 15 months.

Like Kelce, there have been multiple rumors that Swift was dating men she actually wasn’t. Such is the case for the questions: did Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift date, and did Taylor Swift date Zac Efron?

With the former, the “Perfect” singer was quick to shut down the rumors that he was dating the “All Too Well” pop goddess. Regarding the latter, both Swift and the former High School Musical star have consistently denied any romantic involvement with the other, even though the rumors were at their height while they promoted their 2012 animated musical film, The Lorax.

Taylor Swift’s Parents

Taylor Swift is the oldest child and only daughter born to Scott Kingsley Swift and Andrew Gardner Swift (née Finlay). Both were highly successful business professionals, with her father being a former stockbroker with Merrill Lynch and her mother formerly working as a marketing executive for a mutual fund.

Swift got her musical talent, it seems, from her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who was an opera singer. Finlay was a coloratura soprano famed for concert, opera, and supper club singing.

Taylor Swift’s Tattoos

Taylor Swift may seem sweet and demure, but she’s not afraid to add a little ink to her body when important occasions crop up. The funny part is that all of them are temporary tattoos, but fans no less seem to remember them years later.

Her signature inking is the number 13, her lucky number, which she has drawn on her right hand before every single performance. Outlined in black with shimmering blue ink to fill out the block numbers, the number 13 signifies her birthdate as well as her massive success. She has it put on her right hand because she believes it to be the source of her fortune and good luck.

She has also sported temporary tattoos on her foot, including her signature heart alongside the word “Fearless” in honor of her second studio album.

Were Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner Friends?

Remember that boy who broke up with Taylor Swift over the phone when she was 18? Well, that boy would later go on to marry Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner in 2019. Therefore, it’s not unexpected that people would wonder if the two women are, or were ever, friends.

While it’s unclear whether Swift and Turner were friends before, there have been a lot of reports lately that the two women have been spotted enjoying each other’s company in New York. Many have wondered if it’s due partly because Jonas filed for divorce from Turner earlier this month.

The pair have remained close ever since, with Swift even visiting Anderson while she was attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence when the former’s career was really starting to get off the ground.

She writes about the pair’s friendship and first meeting in her hit song, “Fifteen,” referring to Anderson as a “redhead named Abigail.” Anderson subsequently appeared in the song’s music video.

Career

When you kick off your career at just 14 years old, a lot can be accomplished by the time you’re 33 if you continue to work hard. Such is the case for Taylor Swift and her burgeoning influence on the music business.

After releasing her self-titled full-length debut album and bringing out such Taylor Swift songs as “Picture to Burn” and “Teardrops on My Guitar,” her career was off and running.

The follow-up release, Taylor Swift’s album Fearless, brought her career to a new level as it sparked her first headlining tour. Taylor Swift’s tour, Fearless, which lasted from 2009-2010, came after many of her fellow country stars took her under their wing, having her join as their opening act, including Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, and George Strait.

She also toured with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill for a time. (She was later featured on the former’s song, “Highway (Don’t Care)” in 2013. The song, which also included Keith Urban, has been certified platinum three times since its release and has won nine different awards).

With songs like “Love Story,” “You Belong with Me,” and “White Horse” on hand to fill up the set list, the Fearless Tour quickly became a high-earning tour over its two years, bringing in $66.5 million across 99 shows, which would translate to $90.71 million by today’s standards.

That was the starting point for more Taylor Swift tours to come with each subsequent tour, coming after various Taylor Swift albums, bringing in more money than the previous. The current Eras World Tour, which began earlier this year and will continue through 2024, is only continuing that trend.

The Eras Tour, which came about after she rerecorded some of her earliest albums – FearlessRedSpeak Now, and 1989 – following a dispute on the ownership of the albums’ master recordings as well as the release of her new album, Midnights, has already been creeping in on her previously highest grossing tour, the Reputation Stadium Tour (2018).

The latter, over 53 shows, earned $345.7 million at the box office. By comparison, as of June 2023 (only a few months in), the Eras Tour has accrued $300.8 million. This is with her only being a fraction into her scheduled 146 shows.

Her impressive discography collection, songs, and tours are not the only way Taylor Swift has spent her career. She has also proved herself to be quite the actress.

Along with Valentine’s Day (2010) and The Lorax (2012), others of Taylor Swift’s movies have included The Giver (2014), Cats (2014), and Amsterdam (2022).

The “Bad Blood” singer has also released multiple documentary and concert films over the years, with one scheduled to be released for the Eras Tour in October of this year.

Swift has also revealed herself to be a burgeoning filmmaker, coming out with the 2021 romantic drama short film All Too Well: The Short Film, based on her song of the same name.

Initially released in 2012, she released an uncut 10-minute version of the song in 2021 to accompany the film’s release. The film, which runs 15 minutes, stars Sadie Sink, Dylan O’Brien, and Swift.
