Macklemore’s career began in 2000 when he released a mixtape called “Open Your Eyes.” While his music was somewhat popular, it wasn’t until he met his future producing partner Ryan Lewis in 2006 that his music really took off.

The pair released multiple albums under the name Macklemore, and some of his songs began to top the charts. By 2011, Macklemore had enough fans that he kicked off his first multi-city tour. In 2015 he released one of his number-one songs of all time, “Downtown.”

Macklemore’s career has always been mixed with his drug abuse battle, and in 2016, he spoke with President Barak Obama about the dangers of opioids and other painkillers. He also sings about his addiction in numerous songs like “Drug Dealer.” During his music career, Macklemore has had many stints in rehab.
