Bad Bunny is a Latin trap, reggaeton, and dancehall singer. His real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and he was born on March 10th, 1994, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico making the star a Pisces. He has reached fame with his unique approach to urban music, most notably in his singles “Sensualidad”, “Te Boté” and “I Like It”. Here are 25 interesting facts about Bad Bunny.

He has Puerto Rican and Dominican Roots

Bad Bunny’s father is from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, while his mother comes from Puerto Rico. In an interview, he stated that he already knew he had to sing from a young age because his relatives would make him sing when they visited his house.

He is From Humble Beginnings

Vega Baja, Puerto Rico where Bad Bunny grew up in a barrio, or neighborhood associated with the large San Juan area. His father, Tito Martinez was a truck driver, while his mother was a retired school teacher. He is not the only child and has two brothers. 

Although he grew up in a happy home, Bad Bunny reiterates that his family really had nothing. He didn’t get voice lessons or anything fancy, just singing in church on Sundays and after high school on the weekdays. His favorite artist to listen to as a child was Daddy Yankee.

When Benito was 14 years old, he began writing and recording his own songs and posting them to SoundCloud. This didn’t pay the bills, however, and he continued to work as a bagger at Supermercados Econo until 2016. 

He Had to Work on his Music Career for Five Years Before Getting Noticed

Bad Bunny first started recording songs with the stage name “El apto”. It took him five years of trying before he got his first big opportunity in 2014 when Puerto Rican rapper Tempo (who is also Dominican) offered him the chance to make a song. And later that year, Bad Bunny aligned himself with another Puerto Rican rapper, Bryant Myers, and together, they released the song “Pa ti”.

His Stage Name Came From a Bunny Costume

Bad Bunny says he chose his stage name because as a child, he was forced to wear a bunny costume to school. He found a photo of him wearing the bunny suit, which was the inspiration for his new name.
