Gun violence is pervasive over multiple generations of rappers. Let’s go over 20 of the most famous rappers who got shot.
1. Tupac Shakur
Tupac Shakur is one of the most famous rappers who got shot in Las Vegas after visiting the city to watch a Mike Tyson fight with Bruce Seldon. Later in the evening, a car pulled up and fired inside the vehicle Shakur was in, leading to his untimely death and the end of his career at the young age of 25.
2. Pop Smoke
Pop Smoke was shot and killed at age 20 during a home invasion in his Los Angeles rental. There is evidence his postings on Instagram could have influenced the teenagers who invaded the home and fatally shot the rapper.

3. XXXTentacion
In 2018, up-and-coming rapper XXXTentacion was shot and killed after leaving a motorcycle dealership. His shooting was intentional, sudden, and tragic for the millions of people who loved his deep, emotional take on the rap style.
4. Nipsey Hussle
Nipsey Hussle was shot by Eric R. Holder in 2020 in South Los Angeles outside a clothing store he owned. The men were in the same gang, and when things went sour, Holder wasted no time and shot the famous rapper due to their dispute within moments of an altercation.
5. Young Dolph
Young Dolph died in a horrific shooting where he was shot 22 times in a Memphis bakery in 2021. The rapper had already survived two previous shooting attempts, but the third arranged homicide ultimately took his life.
6. PnB Rock
One of the most shocking rappers who got shot was PnB Rock, shot while eating with his girlfriend at a Los Angeles Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in October of 2022. He reportedly saved his girlfriend’s life, throwing her under the table before she could get hurt.
7. Bankroll Fresh
Bankroll Fresh, real name Trentavious White, passed away after he was shot in an altercation near Street Execs Studio in Atlanta in 2016. The rapper met up with another fellow rapper, No Plug, and the tension escalated into a deadly shooting.
8. The Notorious B.I.G.
The Notorious B.I.G. is another iconic rapper who was shot after attending a bustling party in celebration of a promotion for his album, Life After Death. He was riding in the back of a vehicle when an Impala drove next to them and shot inside, leading to his death at 24.
9. King Von
King Von was shot and killed in 2020 after leaving the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta. He was a newbie to the scene, starting to make his name in the rap world when his life ended from gun violence.
10. Takeoff
Takeoff was one-third of the popular group Migos, murdered in Houston on November 1st, 2022, at the age of 28 in front of multiple witnesses in the early morning hours. He passed away after attending a private gathering at the 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston.
11. Dolla
Dolla was killed before he could release his debut album as a result of a disagreement outside a Los Angeles shopping mall in 2009. He had come to the City of Angels to finish up some work on his debut album and went to shop, never to leave again.

12. Proof
Proof was shot in 2006 at the CCC Club on 8 Mile Road in Detroit after there was a dispute between the rapper and Mario Etheridge over a game of billiards. He fired a warning shot, leading to a quick escalation of the situation.
13. Big L
Big L was shot after a disturbance outside his home in Harlem in 1999. He was shot in a drive-by incident by a childhood friend, Gerard Woodley.
14. 50 Cent
One of the most famous rappers who got shot is the iconic 50 Cent, sustaining nine bullets outside his grandmother’s home in Queens in 2000. He was in the back of a vehicle when a man named Darryl Baum approached and shot the rapper, forcing 50 Cent to temporarily retire before flying into stardom.
15. Kodak Black
Rapper Kodak Black was shot in the leg after attending a Justin Bieber afterparty in early 2022. An assailant attacked the rapper’s crew, resulting in chaos and a wound in Kodak Black’s leg.
16. Jam Master Jay
Jason Mizell, otherwise known as Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, was shot and killed after he backed out of a cocaine deal in his Queens studio in 2002. His case was unsolved for a long time, though prosecutors eventually followed the trail to two men named Washington and Jordan.
17. Tray Savage
Rapper Tray Savage, real name Kentray Young, was shot by Demitri Jackson in the Chatham neighborhood in Chicago, leading to Young’s death after the incident and a following car crash. Both men were members of the same gang and reportedly interacted moments before the shooting and untimely death occurred.
18. Chinx Drugz
Chinx Drugz, another up-and-coming rapper, lost his life when two men, Quincy Homere and Jamar Hill, hunted and shot Chinx Drugz as a result of a disagreement when the three were incarcerated together. They had a tussle in 2009 on Rikers Island and the men ended the dispute with gunfire in 2015.
19. Jimmy Wopo
Travon Smart, known as Jimmy Wopo in the rap world, was shot and killed in his native Pittsburgh in June of 2018, right in the neighborhood where he grew up. The 21-year-old was shot along with another passenger, who ultimately made it out alive.
20. Timbaland
Timbaland is the final individual on our list of rappers who got shot, incurring this wound at the young age of fourteen. He was accidentally shot by a coworker at Red Lobster as the shooter bragged about the firearm and accidentally let it go off.
