Dayvon Daquan Bennett, aka King Von, was one of the most promising young rappers to come out of Chicago. Officially kicking off his career in 2018, he immediately separated himself from the rest of the industry for his unique drill music style with an identity of being a pure lyricist. This was all thanks to his focus, punchy lyrics, and flawless delivery, making all of his songs memorable.
There’s no saying where he would have gone had it not been for the “Why He Told” rapper’s untimely and tragic death.

How Did King Von Die?
King Von’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds to various parts of his body.
The incident happened at around 2:15 in the morning. Reportedly, the “I Am What I Am” singer and members of his crew got into a heated quarrel with the crew of fellow rapper, singer, and songwriter Quando Rondo. The altercation happened outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge, a nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia.
As the fight escalated, gunshots were fired, with King Von getting hit multiple times. According to Quando Rondo, the entire battle was initiated by King Von and his people while Quando Rondo and his crew were simply defending themselves.
At the time, TMZ reported that prior to the deathly brawl, Quando Rondo was minding his own business, napping in a car, when he woke up to find King Von and the rest of his crew approaching him and his crew angrily. There was video evidence that showed King Von throwing the first punches at Quando Rondo before the gunfire ensued. The surveillance footage also saw Quando Rondo helping Timothy Leeks, aka Lul Timm, to the hospital after he was also hit with a gunshot.
Lul Timm was the suspected murderer of King Von, who died at the hospital later that day after being brought there in critical condition. Lul Timm was subsequently placed in police custody while being treated for his wounds.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the entire incident left two deceased and six wounded.

His debut studio album, Welcome to O’Block, was released just one week before his death. The release followed his first two mixtapes, Grandson, Vol. 1 (2019) and Levon James (2020).
Prior to his passing, it was indicated that King Von’s will noted that his estate was to remain free, meaning his music was to be released in the proper manner. This was possible because the late rapper owned and had control over all his master recordings prior to his death.
With his family controlling King Von’s estate, two posthumous studio albums, What It Means to Be King and Grandson, were released in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t OK, and that’s what makes it all the more heartbreaking.

“Get y’all sick nasty [expletive] on. Do I look like I’m from Down South?” she said in old social media postings when the rumors were circulating. “Me and my brother we from Chicago. We’re not from Down South were people [expletive they brothers and sisters. All y’all that sayin’ that, I hope y’all grandma die ’cause that’s some nasty [expletive] [sic].”
Conclusion
King Von’s death is one of tragedy in more ways than one, as he was one of the most promising young rappers in the business when his life was cut short. It’s tragic when violence and gang rivalry become more important than the basic respect and right to life. Whether the alleged fault of King Von’s instigating the fight is true or not, the resulting death of King Von and another victim could have been avoided, and therefore saving families so much hurt.
It’s not the first time King Von’s musical abilities were tarnished by his knack for violence. When he was just 14 years old, King Von was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Although he was later acquitted of the May 2014 shooting incident, it wasn’t the end of his legal troubles. He was in and out of trouble for the rest of his life. Even nearly three years after his death, King Von’s violent streak is still what he’s known for, with the four-hour documentary, King Von: Rap’s First Serial Killer, being released on YouTube in April 2023.
His is clearly a life and death that proves one of the worst ways to be remembered.
