Why Did Ariana and Demi Leave Scooter Braun?
Both Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato announced in the summer of 2023 that they were parting ways with former manager Scooter Braun, leaving fans wondering what happened.
Ariana Grande hasn’t publicly stated why she quit working with Braun, but many speculate it is in retaliation to the year-long disagreement Braun had with Taylor Swift over the ownership of her music being sold without her permission.
Other fans speculate that since all contracts with HYBE America are currently up for negotiations it is giving many artists the opportunity to leave, many of whom no longer want their names associated with Scooter Braun.
Grande has notably worked with Braun since her debut album in 2013, making her announcement even more shocking.
Demi Lovato announced her separation from Braun in July 2023 after four years of working with him, saying that it was time for her to take her music in a new direction. While both artists claim to have left “amicably,” fans still wonder what could be in these new contracts that is scaring artists away.
These aren’t the only two enemies Braun has made, as rumors circulate that Justin Bieber is also looking to leave Braun. J Balvin left him in May 2023, following Idina Menzel, who ended her contract with Braun early in 2023.

How Did Scooter Braun Become Famous?
Scooter Braun rose into popularity when Taylor Swift accused him of “incessant, manipulative bullying” as a result of him acquiring the Big Machine Label Group for $300 million.
The company was founded and owned by Scott Borchetta, who famously signed Taylor Swift after watching her perform at Nashville Cafe when she was only 15.
The acquisition deal made Braun the owner of a roster of artists including Lady Antebellum, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, and Sheryl Crow. He also came to own the rights for the first six albums of Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift did not take the acquisition announcement lightly and was incensed that she did not get the opportunity to buy her albums herself.
She disclosed that she had always personally despised Scooter Braun and announced that she wished to re-record the masters so that the value of her originals was significantly reduced.
“When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually, he would sell them,” Taylor wrote. “Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to.”
Who Was Scooter Braun’s First Artist?
The first artist Braun helped come into the limelight was Justin Bieber, closely followed by Asher Roth. Asleep in the Bread Aisle, Roth’s first album came out in 2009, featuring his super hit song, “I Love College.”
“At the time, they didn’t have anything going on,” Braun said. “No one knew who they were. Justin had a little buzz on YouTube, Asher had a little buzz on Myspace, and I had a little buzz coming out of So So Def Records in Atlanta. But we all bet on each other.
Nothing replaces hard work, and we were dedicated to putting in the work required to succeed. We genuinely believed in each other, and that is, first and foremost, why I get clients today.”
Who is Justin Bieber’s Manager?

Braun came across a video of Bieber YouTube performing a Ne-Yo cover song in 2006. Bieber was only 12 at that time. Braun reached out to Pattie Mallette, Beiber’s mother, and convinced her for a trial visit to Atlanta.
Braun worked with Beiber for a few weeks and convinced them to move to the US from Canada. He then pitched Beiber to the likes of Usher, Ludacris, and Justin Timberlake.
Usher asked L. A. Reid, his mentor, to sign Beiber as the first artist under Raymond-Braun Music Group through a deal with Island Def Jam.
The signing proved as the stepping stone to Beiber becoming one of the biggest global popstars, selling hundreds of millions of singles and albums. Braun still manages Bieber.
