Career
Upon being discovered by Neil Spielberg, Springsteen and her family spent the next several years going on back-and-forth trips from Virginia Beach to Nashville until her family moved to the latter when she was 14.
Throughout that time, Springsteen was involved with writing and performing with many country acts, including Sugarland.
Additionally, beginning in the late 2000s, having honed her craft on the guitar, which she first started playing when she was 7, she started releasing videos of her singing her own songs (she started songwriting at the age of 9) on YouTube.
“The guitar was twice my size, and I ended up with so many blisters on my fingers, but I never even thought of giving up,” she has said of her early days. “It’s like I had an instant emotional connection with the guitar, where every time I picked it up, I felt better.
“Ever since I was little, I envisioned myself playing in stadiums – the big dream has always been to get my music out to as many people as possible,” Springsteen has also said. “I was always that kid who loved English class and was always hanging around with the grown-ups, trying to have adult conversations. As soon as I discovered what it felt like to put music and words together, I knew it was going to be something I did for the rest of my life.”
Then, in 2019, she seemingly got her biggest break yet, as she released her self-titled debut extended play as an independent artist.
The EP garnered a lot of attention for Springsteen, with Rolling Stone even saying that Springsteen “writes with beyond-her-years poise, mixing the lovestruck giddiness of a teenager with the hooks of a pro.”
Further, Taste of Country said of the EP, “There’s a big hole in country radio for a female who can sing about young love with loads of sincerity and a little drama or provocation. Springsteen’s authenticity makes her a strong candidate to fill it.”
Springsteen later followed up her debut EP with back-to-back EPs, History of Breaking Up Part One and Two, in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Then came what fans were waiting for as Alana Springsteen’s album, TWENTY SOMETHING, was released in 2023. It was set to feature Alana Springsteen’s songs “Look I Like,” “Goodbye Looks Good on You,” and “You Don’t Deserve a Country Song.”
“Our 20s, they can be confusing, exhilarating, humbling, and unforgettable. We’ll mess things up over and over again. We’ll learn, do better, and start figuring things out – the world around us and ourselves,” Springsteen writes on her official website about the upcoming three-part album.
“And if we’re lucky … and we do the work … and we love hard, once in a while, we get these glimpses of what it feels like to get it right. TWENTY SOMETHING, that’s the title of my debut album, and it’s about all of it.”
With the beauty that it became, we can’t wait for her next studio album to drop soon.
