After forming Buffalo Springfield in 1966 upon moving to Los Angeles, Neil Young’s career embarked on a new path, as the band’s hit “For What It’s Worth” became a rock anthem. The band’s two-year stint produced studio albums such as Buffalo Springfield, Buffalo Springfield Again, and Last Time Around, which brought about songs like “Mr. Soul,” “On the Way Home,” and “I Am a Child.”
Disbanding in 1968 due to strained relationships, mistrust of management, and the deportation of bass player Bruce Palmer, Young finished 1968 as a solo artist. Upon signing with Reprise Records, he released his debut solo album, Neil Young. But, he returned to his group roots for his next album, forming Crazy Horse with Danny Whitten, Billy Talbot, and Ralph Molina.
