5. Mayer Suffers From Panic Attacks

Starting as a young boy, John Mayer is said to suffer from almost crippling panic attacks from time to time. Even though this famous singer, songwriter, and guitarist have been on the top of the charts all over the world, panic attacks still haunt him from time to time.

6. John Mayer’s First Lyrics Were Born Out of Trauma

When he was only 17 years old, Mayer was hospitalized for about a week and was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia. During his stay in the hospital, this young musician is said to have written his very first song lyrics.

7. Mayer Knows Krav Maga

Known to be an Israeli fighting style of martial arts, Krav Maga combines several other martial arts styles into one. John Mayer began studying Krav Maga after a breakup and stuck with it for many years.

8. John Mayer Dropped Out of Berklee College of Music

At the age of 19, Mayer got into the Berklee College of Music, which is known to be one of the most prestigious music schools in the country. Despite this, Mayer chose to leave Berklee along with his friend, Clay Cook, to move to Atlanta to be a part of the music scene.

Although they formed the band, LoFi Masters, together, the two-man group was shortlived when they had creative differences.

9. Mayer Once Interjected Himself in a Stand-Up Comedy Performance

Many people know that John Mayer is a huge fan of stand-up comedy, but did you know that he once kept Kumail Nanjiani from taking the stage during a comedy show?

Mayer decided that he wanted his 5 minutes of fame in the comedy world which turned into a long 20-minute bit where he would not get off the stage.

To make matters worse, once Nanjiani got on stage, John Mayer chose to heckle him continuously.

10. John Mayer’s Musical Inspiration Came From Marty McFly

Most musical legends find their inspiration in those who came before them, and Mayer has his share of those influences. But it is a fact that Mayer was most inspired by Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox in the box office hit, Back to the Future.

When McFly performed his guitar solo onstage during the high school dance, John Mayer was inspired to do the same.
