Severe weather and flash flooding had Minnesotans running for cover at The Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul on Saturday, August 27th. Tens of thousands of people were enjoying the assortment of food, rides, and shops until just before 9 pm when the chaos hit.

In the blink of an eye, the winds picked up as did the rain. In a matter of minutes, the streets became shallow pools of water as the skies flashed with bolts of lightning.
Parents with strollers, children, and teens were seen frantically fighting the blowing rain while scurrying to the nearest building.
Giant teddy bears and inflatable alien prizes were tucked under arms, as people splashed through massive puddles to find safety.
What was once trash barrels became floating bobbers slowly following the water current.

A gust of wind and rain came through the large garage door opening of the Grandstand building, toppling over and shattering one vendor’s glass product displays. The garage door was then pulled shut, as samaritans kept the side door open for those running toward the building.
People rung out their drenched clothing items and waited for the storm to pass, which it did after about 30 minutes. The music performances at the grandstand were canceled and fans were refunded.
You never know what to expect when it comes to Minnesota’s weather. If you plan to attend the Minnesota State Fair, be sure to check the forecast and come prepared!
