Nur-D invites you to rock out and give shelter at Music 4 Shelter. Taking place October 6 at the Fillmore Minneapolis, this annual benefit concert supports Simpson Housing Services’ shelter and housing programs.
Along with legendary Minnesota band The Suburbs, Lady Midnight, and DJ Sophia Eris, Nur-D looks forward to an incredible night of music and housing advocacy. Hear more from Nur-D on why you should come rock out for a good cause in our latest podcast.
“As someone who has been unhoused, it’s so important to me that we highlight this in our community,” Nur-D says. “It’s so important to lend your music to causes you believe in…I am so excited to play at an event like this!”
Currently, the state of Minnesota is experiencing a housing crisis and an increase in the number of unsheltered people, which has only gotten worse due to the pandemic. For Nur-D, standing up for housing justice is essential.
“Housing justice is the foundation,” he says. “When you don’t have a safe place to live, when you don’t have an affordable place to call home, you are prey to so many other problems.”
Organizations like Simpson Housing Services work to better our local community by providing that foundation. Simpson’s programs include emergency shelter, deeply affordable supportive housing across the Twin Cities region, and developmental and educational services for children. Ensuring that people have the tools to thrive and find stability can help break the cycle of homelessness.
Nur-D is excited to support Simpson because of the nonprofit’s local impact. Music 4 Shelter is an accessible way for everyone to participate in doing this work.
“It’s important to start in your community,” he says. “I love to play a show where everybody is rocking out for a good cause. The better the show, the more people talk about it, and the more things change…I am looking forward to creating a night and a moment that will be talked about.”
At Music 4 Shelter, fans can expect countless memorable moments from a tremendous lineup of local acts. Join Nur-D along with the Suburbs and more on October 6 at The Fillmore Minneapolis. Click here to get your tickets today! All proceeds support Simpson’s shelter and housing programs.
