Once she hit grade 5, Lizzo learned to play the flute. She continued this skill through high school marching band and worked on her raps simultaneously. 

Her ability to play the flute earned her a scholarship to the University of Houston. There, she studied music performance intending to continue her education at the Paris Conservatory. Her goal was to play in concert halls and pursue a professional life as a classical musician while creating original music. 

Not only did Lizzo play the flute – she also continued to rap. She became so focused on her rapping and singing that she decided to leave her degree in her junior year. It was time for her to make her name known in the music world.

Lizzo’s career path emerged as soon as she quit college and dive headfirst into the music industry. She first joined a prog-rock band where she sang.
