Up-and-coming indie band La Need Machine took the music scene by storm with their newest single, “I Wish I Could Fly,” last November 17, 2023.
La Need Machine is the latest Seattle indie rock band taking on the world. Given the history of bands like Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana, the Seattle mindset is local and global. No limits.
“We feel like we just continue to get better with every song we produce, and we think this is overall, our best single.” The band said, “And we are totally psyched to be signed to Worldsound/Virgin Music Group and this single is our first one for them.”
Listen to “I Wish I Could Fly” and catch our exclusive interview with La Need Machine right below!
Music In Minnesota: Tell us about the creation process of this project.
La Need Machine: Our creation process always starts with a riff idea, and a chorus concept. We build out from there. Same for this song. One really cool thing about this song is the kernel for this song came to me when I was running on a local trail and ran into a Black Bear. He was a juvenile male and he looked lost! Then I just thought, we, humans, are part of the reason because we are encroaching on his home. Then I thought, boy, he’s the King of this forest, but I bet he wishes he could fly.
MIM: What does this project mean to you?
La Need Machine: Every song is important to us. Every song we make has to be the best that song can be, or we won’t release it. But this single is a really big deal because this is the first one released by our big time-label partnership, Woldsound/Vigin Music Group. We want to make sure they know we are serious and we can deliver serius music.
MIM: Who are your biggest musical influences?
La Need Machine: I like bands that rock, produce hooky music, and have something to say. That’s why the Clash is a huge influence. I’m also a history buff, so I appreciate the genealogy of rock and roll in the United States. Like, I really love Hank Williams Senior. And I really love Elmore James, the King of the Slide Guitar. In my mind, if you combine Hank Williams with Elmore James you have rock and roll.
MIM: What inspires you to create music?
La Need Machine: I love to make people happy with music, and I love using art as a means to deliver social commentary.
MIM: What is one piece of advice you would tell your younger self, or anyone who is pursuing a career in music?
La Need Machine: Have faith in your ideas and your abilities. Even when they don’t sound like anybody else. That doesn’t mean they aren’t great, that just means they are original!
MIM: What can listeners look forward to from you?
La Need Machine: More compelling singles! We’re in a really great creative space right now, and we think the best way to approach this is to release singles as soon as we have them ready to go! Every four to eight weeks, or something like that. We’ve got several songs in different stages of completion, and we’re working hard to finish them up.
MIM: Anything else you’d like to add?
La Need Machine: We like to mix community with our music and we are supporting a number of local and international non-profits like the Trevor Project, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and Childhaven.
