After years of trying to make it big in country music, the future ACM Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award winner got his break when he was noticed by Lawrence Mathis, a talent scout who connected him with Broken Bow, an independent record label.

Finally, after multiple attempts to record an album with Capitol Records Nashville, he recorded and released his self-titled debut album with Broken Bow. It clearly wasn’t a big enough “lapse in judgment” as Aldean filed for divorce from Ussery in 2013, after nearly 12 years of marriage, and officially stepped out with Kerr in their first public appearance as an official couple at the 2014 CMT Awards.

Jason Aldean’s House

Jason Aldean has spent his massive amount of money well, particularly on real estate holdings.

In February, Country Now reported on the “Laughing Until We Cried” singer’s new home in Nashville, trading his previously deemed ‘forever home’ for a funky upgrade.

As Aldean and his family moved in, his wife Brittany delighted fans with social media story updates of the unique home.

“We’re finally in. We just got here probably about an hour ago, and it’s been a long day, but we are in,” the country crooner’s wife said in one of the Instagram stories. “Everything’s ready to go and perfect, and it’s definitely our funkiest house we’ve ever done.”

From there, she announced that photos of the house and a more detailed tour reel were forthcoming. They all captured the unique eccentricities of the home, from huge plants to Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton-themed rooms and more.

Before the move-in day posts, Brittany noted their love for collecting real estate, noting that they will still be holding on to their previous Nashville home. That residence, which they moved into in 2020, features a bowling alley, an outdoor kitchen and bar, a resort-style pool, outdoor play areas for the kids, and more.

“We actually love real estate investments if you guys haven’t noticed. We love moving and creating new spaces and remodeling homes and stuff,” Brittany Aldean said. “We just built our ‘dream’ home two years ago, yet we are sure it won’t be our final home. We love building, designing, the thrill of new places.”

That love of collecting real estate properties couldn’t be truer over the last several years.

The “Dirt Road Anthem” singer also found his forever home in Florida, purchasing an oceanfront mansion for 10.2 million dollars on Hutchinson Island. The property includes four bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a swimming pool, and even a dune crossover boardwalk.

These multiple property investments don’t mean the Aldeans hang on to every piece of property that they own. The Centerville, Tennessee, property on 1,400 acres includes a 4,000-square-foot home.

The country star also sold his Columbia, Tennessee, 120-acre estate in 2019 for a whopping $7 million.

Early Life

Music was a part of Aldean’s life from an early age. While spending the summers with his father in Homestead, Florida, he learned how to play guitar from mapped-out guitar chords that his father would write out on notebook paper. The future country crooner would practice the instrument all day while his father went to work, and then they would play together when he returned home.

From his earliest days, he was already playing such hits as “The Cowboy Rides Away” by George Strait, “My Home’s in Alabama” by Alabama, and “The Blues Man” by Hank Williams Jr.

By 14, Aldean was performing on multiple stages, including the local Macon VFW Hall, area talent contests, and fairs. A year later, he was just 15 years old when he joined the Georgia nightspot Nashville South house band.

After high school, he continued his pursuit of music, playing at clubs and festivals across the southeast and writing his own original songs.

Jason Aldean’s Career

Once Jason Aldean released his debut, self-titled album in 2005, his career finally took off, even earning a number four hit with “Amarillo Sky,” which had brought zero chart success for McBride & the Ride prior.

The album’s massive success earned him the “Top New Male Vocalist” title at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006, with the album going platinum in 2007. Soon, it was clear that country music fans wanted more Jason Aldean albums, and they certainly didn’t have to wait long.

His second album, Relentless, was released on May 29, 2007, and delivered even more chart hits. Just like with “Amarillo Sky,” Aldean proved his star quality as the album’s first single, “Johnny Cash,” peaked at number six, beating out the performance made by Tracy Byrd’s original recording.

By 2009, he released his third studio album, Wide Open, which produced such Jason Aldean songs as “She’s Country” and “Big Green Tractor,” both earning him his second and third number-one hit, respectively. He earned his fourth number-one with “The Truth” and just missed his fifth with “Crazy Town,” which peaked at number two.

In 2009, he also joined Canadian singer and musician Bryan Adams for a CMT Crossroads special.

A year later, even more success came when he released a new single, “My Kinda Party,” and followed it up with the intimate duet, “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” alongside inaugural American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. The latter earned Aldean a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance but lost to The Civil Wars. Despite that, these two songs were just a taste of what would come in his fourth studio album, My Kinda Party, released on Nov. 2, 2010.

Night Train became Aldean’s next album, released on Oct. 16, 2012, with “Take a Little Ride” serving as the album’s first single. He followed this up with a collaboration with fellow country stars Luke Bryan and Eric Church on “The Only Way I Know” and then, “1994,” a tribute to Joe Diffie.

In 2013, Aldean took on a new role as he stood beside actress Kristen Bell to co-host the 2013 CMT Music Awards, during which he also opened the show with a performance of “American Woman” alongside Lenny Kravitz.

His next album, Old Boots, New Dirt, was released in October of 2014 and produced such singles as “Burnin’ It Down,” “Just Getting’ Started,” and “Tonight Looks Good on You.”

The lead-off single produced his widely successful Burn It Down Tour, after which he took the revenue that he earned and donated more than $600,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure of South Florida.

Over the years, Aldean has proven that he is nowhere near slowing down, releasing five more studio albums between 2016 and 2023, including They Don’t KnowRearview Town9Macon, and Georgia. This era brought yet another hot duet when he joined Carrie Underwood for “If I Didn’t Love You.”

This year, Jason Aldean fans are in for yet another treat as he prepares to release his eleventh studio album, Highway Desperado, set to drop on November 3. Considering its highly publicized and recently controversial lead-off single, “Try That in a Small Town,” we’re anxious to hear what else he has in store for us.

The song’s music video made headlines on July 14, including images of the 2020 George Floyd protests, and was filmed at the site of a lynching and a race riot. The backlash led to CMT pulling it off the air and several artists condemning it, including Sheryl Crow and Margo Price. At the same time, musician Cody Johnson and former president Donald Trump supported the song and its accompanying video.

The controversy over the song has created quite the buzz, with many asking who wrote Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town.” It was a collaborative effort between Kelley Lovelace, Neil Thrasher, Kurt Allison, and Tully Kennedy.

Despite the backlash, we’re guessing Aldean is happy they wrote it as the song led to a career highlight for the country star, as the controversy helped him earn his first national chart-topping hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
