Theoretical weight can be heavy. How heavy, you ask? Normally enough to make a person drag while performing daily tasks. The saying, “It feels as if a weight has been lifted,” often comes after a confessional exercise. Confessions can be a grim yet powerful release to help clear one’s mind. Frequently we see that from the release of great pain comes great art.
That’s exactly what emerging artist and singer-songwriter Helen from Minneapolis gave us with her latest five-song EP, Confessions of a Girl in Love.
Hailing from the small Iowa border town of Decorah, Helen began writing songs at the age of ten. Her songs sound like a diary with a drum beat. Her personal confessional and narrative lyricism allows the listener to feel emotion through her music, as she struggles through the heartbreak and rebound from love.
She takes you on an emotional journey through six years of her life, including the turbulence of her late teens and early 20s. Her album tells the tale of a girl who experienced heartbreak and held on to hope; a girl who lost love and found it again.
Having written most of the songs in her bedroom, she manages to push her incredible propensity for growth, artistry, and a deep love of music through earnest songwriting.
Recorded and produced by Jada LaFrance and Helen, this EP features a polished production with influences from Americana and bedroom pop genres.
Confessions of a Girl in Love is available everywhere on October 6th, 2023:
