Pop Evil Crushes Music Hall MPLS

I am starting to warm up to this venue. This is the second show that I have been able to photograph at Music Hall MPLS, and I have to admit that I am really diggin’ it. Maybe I feel this way because the opening acts have been absolutely amazing. Either way, last night was a lot of fun.

Palaye Royale was the first to perform last night. As I walked into the sea of people, I was second guessing myself on whether I arrived at the right time. Hearing their extremely passionate performance and seeing the crowd’s reaction, I thought the headliner was already playing. I was pleasantly surprised to see the main floor completely packed with fans.

While the party continued, Black Map seemed to make a great impression. One of the most interesting parts of this band was that they were shredding with only three band members. My first reaction was confusion when the trio spread out evenly across the stage. Most rock concerts that I have been to tend to have one lead singer, two guitarists/bass player, and a drummer. As I listened and watched, however, I could not really tell that this band only had three members. I personally was impressed by how well they played together.

Right after the two openers, fans were looking to occupy their time while waiting for the headliner Pop Evil to jump on stage. There was quiet, 80’s rock music playing in the background as the crowd conversed with one another, but that was not fulfilling their needs. Suddenly, everyone in the building started singing loudly along to songs like “We Will Rock You” and “Livin On A Prayer.”

Energy levels were extremely high right as Pop Evil stepped out on to the stage. All throughout their performance, their lead vocalist continued to express how much he enjoyed intimate shows like this one. It seems that most bands are feeling this way lately because they have a better chance to really connect with all of their fans.
