As many of you know, Minus the Bear announced their final US tour after 17 years of faithful service to the indie rock community. The Seattle based rockers embarked on the “The Farewell Tour” with their longtime friends, Caspian. Although Minneapolis is sad to see them go, the city couldn’t have asked for a better goodbye from our beloved Minus the Bear.
Caspian blew the roof off of The Varsity Theatre with their cinematic post-rock set. Their dynamic set is full of beautiful melodic ballads always followed by an intense breakdown. I am filled with awe and wonder every time I see them.
Caspian has been touring with acts ranging from metalcore to indie-rock. Their unique sound traverses all music styles and I firmly believe that any music listener will be able to fall in love with them. Their set was short and sweet, but Caspian left the crowd wanting more. I really hope that they tour through Minneapolis again soon.
Minus the Bear has had an incredibly successful career over the past 17 years. With 13 studio albums, countless tours, and an extremely dedicated fanbase, it is safe to say that they are leaving a legacy of greatness in their path.
Their signature early 2000’s indie/math rock has held up over the years as some of the best music in their genre. Even though times and sounds have changed in the scene, they have stayed true to their sound and somehow it hasn’t gotten stale at all. I have been continually impressed by each of their album releases because they just don’t get old at all.
Their final show in Minneapolis was filled with nostalgia and emotion as the city said goodbye to a faithful friend who was cherished so dearly. The passion and admiration was radiating off of the fans the entire set. Minus the Bear, Minneapolis will miss you.
