The 2017 Summer X Games brought a slew of the world’s best extreme athletes to US Bank Stadium this past weekend. Amongst these international daredevils were two local midwesterners, Alec Majerus and Colton Walker.
Majerus, a skateboarder hailing from Rochester, Minnesota, won the silver medal in Men’s Skateboard Street final on Saturday. The 22 year old brought a substantial crowd with him to US Bank Stadium- their enthusiastic cheering was some of the loudest heard all weekend. Majerus’ best run was his first, scoring an 88.66 out of a possible 100. His final trick was a backside 180 kickflip off of the viking ship ramp in the middle of the course. The bold decision paid off as he landed it perfectly, earning a standing ovation from his friends and family.
Colton Walker spent his childhood in Minneapolis before moving across state lines to New Richmond, Wisconsin. The X Games rookie competed in both BMX Park and Dirt finals, finishing in fourth and first respectively. His first BMX Dirt run was a bit rough, scoring a 69.00, but he shook off the nerves and stepped his game up for his second run, scoring an incredible 93.00.
The remarkable run included a 360 double tailwhip with a barspin off of the second jump and ended with a flair whip to barspin off of the quarter pipe. He executed these stunts with surprising grace, looking effortless even while upside-down.
