Rochester, New York band Joywave graced the stage of Minneapolis’ own Triple Rock Social Club on Tuesday, September 29th. The openers Priest and Grace Mitchell did a great job pumping up the audience. However, Joywave has made leaps and bounds in the past year and certainly weren’t lacking in energy from the crowd when they climbed the stage.
To recap some of their successes, Joywave has appeared on the Late Night Talk Show with Seth Myers, Jimmy Kimmel and has even peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Chart with their track “Dangerous” featuring Big Data.
Last year Joywave performed at The Fine Line Cafe in Minneapolis with Australian singer Betty Who and Great Good Fine Ok. People were just starting to hear of them. Since then, the group gained considerable notoriety by following up with a summer tour with American rock band Cage The Elephant. This brought them back to Minneapolis yet again when they opened for them at the Myth Night Club this June.
Joywave continues to gain more and more fans with their relentless hard work and evolving sound. Lead singer, Daniel Armbruster excitedly informed the crowd between songs that their tour had been almost entirely sold out, save for the Minneapolis show. Despite this, The Triple Rock was still packed and whatever space remained, the crowd was sure to fill with their enthusiasm. Although they didn’t play “Dangerous,” the popular song of the night was their hit, “Tongues,” which has taken the digital world by storm with over 10 million Spotify plays. Their most recent full-length album titled “How Do You Feel Now?” was released mid-April of this year. “Destruction,” the fan favorite of the album was a great addition to the set list. I suggest you check them out… I mean, if you’re into good music and stuff.
