Janet Jackson is perhaps the richest member of the Jackson family with a net worth of $190 million to her name.

Bearing the name “Jackson” is as good as having a title. The Jackson family came into the limelight around the late 1960s and since then their legacy has been ongoing.

They’ve had a lot of success in the realm of popular music, both as a band and as individual performers. Some members of the Jackson family have been able to create their legacies and are still strong and significant in the mind of fans and the public to date.

The late Michael Jackson, AKA the king of pop, will usually be the first Jackson to come to mind, but another Jackson has been able to stay relevant in the minds of the public as well.

Janet Jackson’s Uprising

Janet Damita Jo Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana in the USA. She rose to fame as a singer, dancer, songwriter, and actress, starting out in the family band, The Jackson 5.

Her records and lavish theatrical productions are inventive, socially oriented, and sexually provocative.

Her sound and dance were important in the creation of MTV, allowing her to climb to popularity while also breaking gender and racial barriers. Her position as a role model for teenagers was established by lyrical material that focused on social issues.

Janet had to climb through a ladder to get to the top where she is now. Her career started with The Jacksons, a 1976 television show, and then proceeded to appear in other TV shows; Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes, and Fame, which were all popular in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Her career took another turn and she became a pop sensation and icon after obtaining a recording contract with A&M Records in 1982 and the release of her third and fourth studio albums Control (1986) and Rhythm Nation 1814, respectively (1989).

She had major collaborations at the time, they included components of funk, disco, rap, rhythm and blues, and industrial sounds, bringing about a successful transition into popular music.

Her career took a more interesting turn from this point. She proceeded to sign the first of two multimillion-dollar contracts with Virgin Records, she became one of the industry’s highest-paid musicians as a result of this.

She starred in Poetic Justice, her first of several main cinema roles, before her first studio movie with Virgin (1993). Janet (1993) and The Velvet Rope (1997), her two studio albums after that, saw her establish a reputation as a sex symbol.

These songs were backed with symbolic music videos and live performances in concert tours. The imagery presented to the public gave Janet a sexual reputation as she was viewed as one of the world’s most sexual artists, earning her both praise and condemnation at the time.

Following the outcry over the 2004 Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show debacle, there was an industry blacklisting that resulted in the decline of Janets’s major enterprises, her radio airplay, televised marketing, and sales figures all declined.

She went forward however to release her ninth studio album Discipline (2008), her first and only album with Island Records, after parting relations with Virgin Records. In 2015, she formed her record label, Rhythm Nation, with BMG Rights Management, and released her eleventh studio album, Unbreakable, the same year.

She has been releasing her music as an independent artist since then, we can say that the backlash she received encouraged her to build her own empire. If that’s not a concrete case of building a house with the stones thrown at you, then we don’t know what is.

Janet Jackson’s Further Achievements

From the time of her uprising till now, Janet has sold over 100 million records making her one of the best-selling artists in history.

She has an amazing portfolio and list of high-ranking songs and projects that consist of singles such as “Nasty”, “That’s the Way Love Goes”, “Rhythm Nation”, “All for You”, and “Together Again.”

She has paved her way into becoming a billboard honorary as she has had 18 top-ten entries on the US BILLBOARD HOT 100 SONGS chart, identifying her as one of the most consecutive top-ten entries.

Her significance on the Billboard continues as she is the only artist in Billboard history to have made seven popular and high-ranking singles from a single album.

In 2008, she was awarded the fifth spot among the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists in 2008, and fifth among the “Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years” in 2010. She has a series of recognitions following that, from being recognized as the second most successful dance club artist to being recognized as a five-time Grammy award winner, eight-time Guinness World Records entries, eleven-time Billboard Music Awards, and eleven-time American Music Awards.

She has a star on the Hollywood wall of fame as well to crown her significant efforts. It is not too farfetched to say that the artist has done more than enough for herself having been through trials and having succeeded in overcoming them.

For someone that’s overcome and achieved a lot, it’s only normal to ask about her net worth. The gains from her labor and sweat will have more significance if they can be monetarily valuable.

Currently, Janet Jackson is said to have a net worth of 190 million dollars. There have been controversies surrounding her net worth.

Several years ago in an interview with Variety, Janet gave a report on her projects and they were falsely calculated by the reporter who had at that time concluded that Janet had a net worth of about 1.2 billion dollars.

However, that number doesn’t tally with Janet’s true net worth as she currently has a net worth of $190 million.

2Pac and Jackson had to kiss at the end of the movie, which may have appeared a little too genuine to the public.

The film was a modest success, critics had a lot to say on Janet and Shakur’s connection and performances.

There are rumors however that the stars didn’t make as much as they should from the movie, Shakur was paid only $7,500 for his role, which could indicate that Janet was paid similarly, but this assertion has not been substantiated.
