Saint Paul based Hip Hop/EDM group We Are have just released their self-titled debut album. As a fairly new group to the scene, they’ve dropped 8 singles ranging from EDM instrumentals to full-on hip hop jams. Listen to their new album here!

Group vocalist Mingo spoke on the production of the new album and how naturally it came to be. After a heart-to-heart, members of the band decided to get serious and pumped out an album in 6 months.

“At first we’d just hangout a few times a week, drink beers, write music, jam, or just simply listen. We’d never really plan to have anything released until a few weeks before it dropped, it was all for fun,” Mingo said. “The next 3-5 months were the most creative, difficult, scary, and doubtful months of my life.”

The band usually begins their sessions by warming up, listening to rappers like Prof, Logic, Brother Ali all the way to Rage Against the Machine.

“Some songs we write in a day, others can take months, most die on the vine, and we’re totally okay with that. We trust the process.”

The album is full of uplifting lyrics and hard-hitting drops, but also features a few instrumental jams. Working full time and having lives outside of music, the band would get together whenever possible, usually burning the midnight oil on a weeknight.

Moving forward, We Are is working on their second project.

“Whether its a handful of singles, an EP, or another album, we don’t know… we’ll trust the process and see where it takes us!”

Carpe Diem

“We decided to do a video for ‘Carpe Diem’ because it was the theme of this album. The song is about working hard, having fun, and ignoring any negative vibes. That’s what it took to get this album done.” – We Are
