So, to most of you, it will probably be blatantly obvious that we’re called Music in Minnesota. Over the past year, we’ve been traveling all across the country. We’ve hit the experience that is Electric Forest. We’ve gone to the sandy beaches of the Gulf Shores of Alabama to feature Hangout Fest. And, we’ve traveled to festivals all over the upper Midwest to bring you coverage.
Why have we been doing it? To open up Minnesotans to new musical experiences across the country, and encourage travel to some of these fantastic destinations. I’m unofficially calling it MimTrips, and today we’re featuring Suwannee Hulaween.
Headliners like ODESZA, Jamiroquai and Janelle Monáe will be gracing the main stages. And just like Electric Forest, The String Cheese Incident will be taking a prominent place in the fest with three nights of jamming. Check out the line up here. I’ll be looking at hitting Vulfpeck, STS9, Rezz, Tory Lanez, NGHTMRE, Action Bronson, Troyboi, Soulection, Kasbo, Clozee, and Too Many Zooz, among others not listed on here
A unique thing to note is that this is only 1 of 5 US stops for Jamiroquai, a legendary jazz-funk band from the UK. Most people will remember them by their video for “Virtual Insanity.” To this day, I’m pretty sure no one has quite figured out how the room moves, it’s not CGI, it came out in 1996.
However, music is only half the fun at Hulaween. As the name suggests, the festival takes place over the weekend closest to Halloween, and it’s an all-out costume extravaganza, with themes and other events to go along with it. Spirit Lake also takes center stage, which is the temporary name of the lake in the middle of the park for when it turns into a giant art installation along with the cypress forest around it.
The park itself is also expansive, with around 800 acres of space to play with, there is plenty to do. Including hiking, a bird sanctuary, a restaurant, and swimming. Also, there a place to face my nemesis from college, the biggest bat house in the entire country. Can’t wait. Seriously.
Festivalgoers will be treated to art installations from artists all around the country all the while getting to listen to some of the best music the country has to offer. We’re very excited to make our first ever trip down to Live Oak, Florida to experience a festival that will be vastly different from anything we’ve experienced in our home state.
