On April of 2015, Minneapolis Cinematic/Alt-folk band, Marah In The Mainsail launched a Kickstarter campaign with hopes to receive help on footing the recording bill of a new, gritty, toe-tapping batch of tunes; that of which they did, thanks to their long-time listening fans. Upon completion of the $6,500 goal, the group teamed up with record label, Last Triumph on the release of their full-length album titled,“Thaumatrope“.
Starting in the stairwell at Normandale college, the six-piece’s eclectic sound is a one-of-a-kind recipe created by the collective minds of members Austin Durry, Cassandra Sabol, Austin Wilder (the wilder Austin), John Baumgatner, Dane Hoppe and Austin Tang.
Track #3 on the album, “Wendigo” is a perfect example of their knack for story-telling and authentic lyrics. For those who may not know, Wendigo is the native-american myth of a monster or evil spirit commonly associated with the winter, related to cannibalism, murder and insatiable greed.
Since the release of Thaumatrope, the group has gained considerable notoriety in the Midwest and continue to grow their loyal fan base across the country. Marah In The Mainsail will be taking the stage at The Plus in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on September 23; a small community-feel venue which was recently given a nod by late night talk show host, Conan O’Brien. Their next home base appearance will be in Minneapolis at Aster Cafe, September 30th. Shortly after, the band heads for the Colorado mountains to share their new tunes with the West.
