After spending all of 2017 writing, recording, mastering, and then pondering when he should release it, Minnesota-based rapper Arlo Stafford, known as Guthrie, released his latest album on New Year’s Eve. The release of the nine-track album, titled Youth, is the culmination of almost two years of work, a process that Stafford is relieved is finally over.
“I’m dropping it cause I’ve had it for two years now & need to just walk away from it and start something new,” says Stafford. “I wanted to let my album Youth out before we hit 2018. This album means a lot to me & I hope you vibe with the songs as much as I do.”
Youth follows many of the trials and tribulations Stafford has experienced over the years, including the loss of his close friend Ryan Ogle who passed away in 2015. The album also features verses from many notable names in the Minnesota Hip-Hop scene, such as Nate Millyunz, Lil Skam, Doug ‘Layte” Linburg, and Danny C, as well as California-based rapper Kung Fu Vampire.
As of right now, the album can be listened to in its entirety on YouTube, which can be found above. The album will be available for streaming on all major platforms by the end of the week.
Stafford also said that we can expect a ‘Youth Side-B’ follow up project, which will feature tracks that didn’t make it onto the final cut of the album but did not specify when we could expect that.
