“When I came on as a coach on this show, I mean, everything in my life was turned upside down,” Shelton said in the interview. “And in a good way, you know? This has been incredible, but it’s time, you know. It’s time for not even what’s next. A little bit of nothing would be nice.”
Blake Shelton’s Early Career
Shelton’s interest in music began early.
He started singing when he was little and learned guitar by age 12. He was 15 when he wrote his first song, and even received a Denbo Diamond Award at 16 in Oklahoma.
Upon graduating high school, Shelton packed his bags and moved to Nashville to pursue his singing career.
After finding work with a music publishing company, he eventually signed with Sony Music and released his first album in 2001.

Pure BS (2007)
“The More I Drink” hitmaker achieved another Gold certification with his fourth studio album, Pure BS, released in 2007.
Additionally, his cover of “Home” by Michael Bublé for the album’s bonus track re-release in 2008 became his fourth No. 1 hit on the country charts.
Other singles on the album included “Don’t Make Me” and “The More I Drink,” which peaked in the top 20.
Startin’ Fires (2008)
Blake Shelton released his fifth studio album, Startin’ Fires, in 2008.
He continued his string of No. 1 hits to kick off the album’s release with “She Wouldn’t Be Gone.” His second single off the album, “I’ll Just Hold On,” topped out at No. 8 on the country charts.
The album is the first of Shelton’s not to be certified by RIAA. Only one other album has yet to be certified, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
Red River Blue (2011)
With his sixth studio album, Red River Blue, released in 2011, Blake Shelton earned his first two-time platinum certification by the RIAA.
It’s also the first album with four straight singles reaching No. 1 on the country charts. They included “Honey Bee,” “God Gave Me You,” “Drink On It,” and “Over.”
Cheers, It’s Christmas (2012)
Blake Shelton spiced up the holidays with his Cheers, It’s Christmas album, released in October 2012.
Along with Christmas classics such as “Jingle Rock” and “White Christmas,” Shelton also co-wrote three original tracks for the album, including “Santa’s Got a Choo Choo Train,” “Time for Me to Come Home,” and “The Very Best Time of Year.”

Based on a True Story… (2013)
Blake Shelton’s Based on a True Story… released on Mar. 26, 2013, is arguably his most successful album to date.

Ironically, while all five singles from the album hit No. 1 for U.S. Country Airplay, “Sure Be Cool If You Did” was the only single to hit No. 1 on the charts, although the other four peaked in the Top 5.
Bringing Back the Sunshine (2014)
Blake Shelton’s ninth album, Bringing Back the Sunshine, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s all-genre Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts in September 2014. The album was certified gold in January 2015 and platinum in October 2016.
Unfortunately, none of the four singles off the album gave him a No. 1, but we’ll listen to “Sangria” and “Lonely Tonight” any time!
If I’m Honest (2016)
Shelton released If I’m Honest on May 20, 2016.
