New Zealand based indie-electronic band, The Naked and Famous graced the crowds at First Avenue with their well-known, vibrant, anthems while mixing in songs from their newly released album “Simple Forms.” The crowd was undeniably passionate as their voices echoed the lyrics to popular favorites like “Punching in a Dream”, “Young Blood”, and “Higher”.
Along for the tour was the indie pop band XYLØ – a brother sister duo consisting of Paige & Chase Duddy. The siblings first found success with their debut track “America“, a hazy pop ballad about love and freedom that was featured in an online PacSun commercial staring Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The internet lit up in response and the track garnered over 1.6 million listens on Soundcloud, as well as reached #1 on Hypemachine.
Since then, the band has released three singles – “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”, “Afterlife”, and “L.A. Love Song“. Each song garnering millions of listens and contributing to the buzz around the band. You might also recognize their latest track, “Gossip” as the instrumental version of the track was featured in the recent Apple keynote for their new AirPods.
On stage, the brother and sister duo were accompanied by two other band members, making for a smoothly executed set. Despite being a newer group, their stage presence was engaging and confidently lead by Paige. If you hadn’t heard of XYLØ before the show, you were quickly swept into their catchy, yet relatable songs, carrying hints of familiar artists such as Halsey and Broods. The styles of each band on the bill were distinctly different yet complimentary to each other, making for a well rounded and electrifying experience for everyone.
XYLØ released their debut EP, America in early 2016 via Sony’s Disruptor Records/Sony RAL which has garnered over 25 million streams. Check it out, here.
