Louis The Child Sells Out Skyway Theatre

Minneapolis was proud to welcome Louis the Child at Skyway Theatre for a sold-out show on Saturday. Just like any of their shows, they had everyone dancing and jumping around from start to finish. For only twenty dollars, fans were not only able to see Louis the Child but they were also able to see Party Pupils, Win & Woo, and Joey Purp. Due to me shooting for Party Pupils, I was unable to shoot Joey Purp’s and Win & Woo’s set. I was able to see bits of their performances though and I can tell you now, they are acts you don’t want to miss.

The first performance was by some of my favorite people, Party Pupils. This was their first time in Minneapolis known as Party Pupils. They have gone by the names of just MAX and Ryan for years now but recently decided to expand their genres. On Saturday, they played songs from “Pony” which was released last year to a new unreleased song “Sex on the Beach”. Despite this being their first time in Minneapolis in this scene, the crowd absolutely loved them. They had everyone up on their feet. I’ve personally known these two for a couple of years now, one of their shows being the inspiration for me to start concert photography, so Saturday night was a huge night for all three of us. They are not only amazing artists but they’re also extremely genuine people.

At one point, Max grabbed my hand while I was in the photo pit and said into the mic, “Hey baby, how are you?”. This startled some people in the front row which was kind of funny and made me laugh. Then later, they wanted a crowd photo so they brought me on stage to take their photo. These two have been nothing but supportive of me and I can’t write this article without thanking them. Overall, these two did an amazing job for how tired they were from touring nonstop for the past few weeks and they are a performance that you need to see in your lifetime.

Win & Woo and Joey Purp did incredibly well from what I had the chance of seeing. Sadly like I said before, I was unable to get any photos of them. The amount of energy they all had was insane and so much fun. They were also all incredibly nice and funny people when I met them backstage. Don’t miss their shows if they come to your city!

The craziest performance of the night had to be Louis the Child, and I’m not just saying this because they were the headliners. Their set was insanely fun from start to finish. Electronic music can be pretty hard for me to shoot at shows just because the artists spend a lot of time behind the table/booth. Although Louis the Child was far from hard to shoot. They performed their popular songs such as Love is Alive, Weekend, and Fire. They also played samples of new songs that made the crowd go crazy.

Freddy Kennett and Robby Hauldren created Louis the Child in 2013. They have grown immensely since then, even playing at Lollapalooza and Electric Forest. Before I knew much about them or seen many photos of them, I could’ve sworn they were at least twenty four because of how mature they seemed. I was shocked to find out a year ago that they’re actually twenty-one. If you haven’t checked out their music, I highly suggest doing so.

They went all out on Saturday by dancing on the table they kept their laptops and even having confetti explode at the end of their set. They had two encores where fans screamed at the top of their lungs for them to come back out both times. The Last to Leave tour continues, now going to the west coast, with new openers. Even though Party Pupils, Joey Purp, and Win & Woo will not be opening for Louis the Child, I highly recommend catching them on this next leg of the tour. Overall, all of the acts that performed on Saturday deserve so much love and they are all acts you need to see at least once.
