On a chilly Minnesota evening, the Target Center was pulsating with anticipation as fans of Joji gathered in the venue to witness an unforgettable performance. The mix of concert-goers was entertaining to witness since it showcased the wide diversity of Joji’s fanbase. A few die-hard fans paid homage to his earlier work with costumes inspired by his “Filthy Frank” persona, while others came to show their unwavering support for his evolution as an artist.
The atmosphere in the venue was electric, and you could feel the excitement in the arena as you walked towards the stage. The three openers, Savagerealm, Lil Toe, and Kenny Beats put on an impressive show despite the few technical difficulties they faced. Their energy was contagious, and they successfully warmed up the audience for the main event.
As the lights dimmed to signal Joji’s imminent appearance, the roar of the crowd intensified. The artist himself emerged amidst an ethereal backdrop, and the cheers from the audience were deafening. He opened the set with the hauntingly beautiful “Sanctuary,” setting the tone for an emotionally charged evening.
Joji’s setlist of 16 songs took the audience on a mesmerizing journey through his evolving discography. “Die for You” and “Like You Do” were particular highlights, as his soulful voice seemed to resonate deeply with the fans. A highlight of the night for me was when Joji gave a shout-out to all the prior performers and then praised his band as they took a solo riff.
After a triumphant performance, you could tell fans wanted more, and Joji gave them an encore with the soul-stirring hit “Glimpse of Us,” leaving everyone in the crowd in a state of awe. The Target Center proved to be a fitting venue for the occasion, offering excellent acoustics and ample space for fans to dance and sing along. It was clear that Joji’s return to Minnesota was welcomed with open arms.
Joji’s performance was a testament to his growth as an artist and the profound connection he has established with his fans. The evening was a beautiful fusion of past and present, showcasing Joji’s transformation from his Filthy Frank days to a versatile, emotionally charged musician. I personally had an incredible time at the show, and I look forward to the day when Joji again graces Minnesota with his presence.
