For many people, the annual trip to Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin is a major destination. Blue Ox features instrument workshops, art installations, a 9-hole disc golf course, a family stage for children’s activities. But the main attraction is the 3 stages filled with nonstop Bluegrass, Americana, Blues, and Country cross-blends of music.
Today the official lineup for the 8th annual Blue Ox Music Festival has been released. The diverse lineup features heavy hitters; Nashville string band Old Crow Medicine Show, 15 time Grammy Award winner Béla Fleck: My Bluegrass Heart (featuring Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz, and Bryan Sutton), Punch Brothers, and annual favorite mandolin guru Sam Bush Band.
Local favorites Mae Simpson, Humbird, Erik Koskinen, Good Morning Bedlam, The Okee Dokee Brothers, and The Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins add a Minnesota intrigue to the lineup. Pert Near Sandstone will host the festival once again, as well as perform two of the nights.
Some attention-grabbing artists to the lineup include newcomer 25-year-old Daniel Donato, blues rock artist Samantha Fish, Portland sister trio Joseph, the grandson of legend R.L. Burnside- Cedric Burnside, and upcoming gem Riddy Arman.
The festival has established itself as an eclectic blend of bluegrass and Americana, focusing on exceptional musicians, and the vaunted late-night Backstage where anything can happen. Last year, Music in Minnesota was there to cover the 3-day festival, along with interviews from 6 of the artists. For a glimpse of what you can expect, check out our photo gallery online.
Without further adieu, here’s the full lineup.
Attendance will be limited to 5,000 tickets this year to preserve the intimacy and magic that Blue Ox was built upon. Tickets range from $199 for a two day general admission pass or for $20 more you can attend all three days. Car camping and RV options are still available as well. See all options HERE.
