Walking up to First Avenue to see the packed venue populated with numerous attendees impatiently anticipating Big Wild’s performance was quite the exhilarating experience within itself.
At 8:30, the opening act, Mild Minds took the stage in the Mainroom. Mild Minds’ featured these melancholic rhythms within each of his tracks performed, profoundly setting the tone for the rest of the night’s show.
Since immediately signing to EDM duo, Odesza’s label, Foreign Family Collective, Mild Minds’ performance made his recognizably, astounding talent apparent for those hearing his music for the first time but came to no surprise to his day one supporters enjoying the show. Following Mild Minds’ outstanding performance, Robotaki’s performance featured this energetic, electro-funk style of music.
After establishing this lively, retro vibe present throughout his set, Robotaki’s style of music enlightened the venue and attendees dancing freely to the groove of his liberatingly, upbeat set.
As Big Wild stepped on stage, only to witness him perform your favorite track off his debut album, “City of The Sound” immediately indicated to me this was going to be a highly impressive set list.
My instincts were spot on as I overlooked at the congested yet carefree crowd dancing within the nostalgically, iconic venue from the balcony. Big Wild’s overall performance possessed this radiating energy that emanated from the sound of Big Wild’s style of music.
As a one man band, to experience Big Wild sing on stage only to jump from instrument to instrument, both DJing and playing the drums highlighted on his musical capabilities, uniquely identifying his style of electronic dance music. The organization and structure of both his setlist and track selections illuminated his overall performance.
Beginning his encore with the track, “Heaven” tied together with the lighting and production, created this beautifully lit atmosphere, leaving with anyone attending the show Wednesday night with chilling goosebumps.
Mild Minds, Robotaki, and Big Wild entranced attendees with the performance of a lifetime, engaging the crowd through their individually fresh new sound and style of rhythmic, electronic dance music.
Big Wild’s performance had fans and attendees alike, both breathless from his high energy performance and speechless by his emotionally rhythmic, downtempo melodies within each track performed, transitioning back and forth from songs featured off the debut album, Superdream. Big Wild respectively showcased his talentat First Avenue, kicking off the first date of his debut, headlining tour cross country in a highly impressionable way.
