A$AP Rocky brought a massive production to the Armory last night in promotion of his latest record, TESTING. The stage setup included three cars, a lengthy catwalk, and plenty of cryo and pyrotechnics.
Before Rocky hit the stage, an overhead voice informed the crowd that it would be an interactive show. Two masked hype men held signs that instructed the audience to smile, frown, and mosh pit. The atmosphere was chaotic as Rocky ran on stage to the epic “Distorted Records.” Fans were so rowdy they broke through the stage right barricade.
Rocky brought intense energy to the old Laker’s stadium and pushed the limits of what is possible in that space- his production was on par with most arena and stadium tours.
TESTING launches a new era for Rocky, exploring new sounds and ideas in an unparalleled musical landscape where he continues to break the mainstream mindset with sonics rarely heard in hip-hop. This album picks up where Rocky last left off, weaving mind-melting aural psychedelics into hip-hop that is, at times dark and confessional, and in other moments uplifting and celebratory.
