Alejandro Rose-Garcia, better known by his stage name, Shakey Graves, brought his tour through Minneapolis on Wednesday, performing for a sold-out crowd at First Avenue. Dave Ramirez, opener and close friend of Mr. Graves, got the crowd energized with ready for the night with his unaccompanied guitar and harmonica act, playing familiar songs from his older albums along with his new 2017 release of Time.
Shakey Graves, a native Texan, is known for his interesting mix of blues, folk, and rock and roll, picked up right where Ramirez left off. Starting with his song called Word of Mouth, he immediately had the crowd going wild and singing along. Although he became famous and known as a “one man band,” after his first three songs, he brought out other band members to accompany him for the rest of the performance.
The energy and stage presence Shakey Graves has makes him one of the best in the business, and he has this sort of ability to make the concert seem very personalized, as he’s very talkative and interactive with the crowd.
After ending the concert with Roll the Bones, he left the crowed wanting more. Everyone began chanting “One more song!” Shakey was brought back out to encore with David Ramirez. The two did a duet singing Darknez and perhaps Shakey Graves’ most well known song, Late July.
It was a real treat to see two very talented performers like them share the stage and close out the show together. Next time either of these guys are in town, don’t hesitate to order a ticket. This is a show you don’t want to miss!
