We grew up with the charming, sincere voice of Casey Kasem as he announced the American Top 40 Countdown for many years. After Kasem’s retirement in January of 2004, radio as we know it would never be the same. Ryan Seacrest, if you’re reading this, no offense.
Last Sunday, I was driving home from a friend’s wedding in Rochester. I had difficulties getting a clear radio station signal, so I hit the scan button on my radio when suddenly a familiar voice was heard.
It was Casey’s calm and cool vocals making an introduction to a track he was soon to air. I was instantly brought back to memories of my childhood; summers rollerblading in the driveway with the boom box blasting, while my sisters draw pictures with colorful sidewalk chalk; jumping through the water sprinkler and dancing like fools to Eiffel 65’s 1999 hit, “Blue”.
iHeartRadio’s KOOL 108 has brought back Casey Kasem’s American Top 40. Hosting reruns of Casey’s countdown from the 1970s and 1980s, he may not be playing music I grew up listening to (90’s and 2000’s), but his voice still holds a heap of nostalgia that may just send you back to your younger years.
According to their website, Casey Kasem’s AT 40 is scheduled to air every Saturday at 6:00 AM, however, it was around 1:00 PM on Sunday afternoon when I came across the program. Stream Kool 108 radio station straight from your laptop or mobile device!
