Do you remember your first concert? The venue, the band, the fans— the experience. I distinctly remember the vast difference between a huge production at an arena show and a smaller, more intimate setting. At these concerts, you can feel more like you are a part of a big group of friends, hanging out with some of your favorite people. This is where I got to take my sixteen-year-old sister for her first show.

This week @thecedar: @badsuns, @julienrbaker, @intiillimani_oficial, @deertickmusic, @mattwertz and more.

Bad Suns was booked to play The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis and I couldn’t be happier to see one of my favorite bands for the third time. Attendees were a packed room of mostly 90’s clothing-wearing clad millennials excitedly anticipating the show. The energy throughout the room was unmistakably positive— likely not from alcohol, but rather the exhilaration of a first concert.

Seeing the excitement in the eyes of these kids reminded me of my first concert, bringing back an abundance of nostalgia. I smiled at the elated expression on my sister’s face as the headliner took to the stage. Sporting their signature look, with black dress pants, almost business-like, the band gave nothing short of a professional performance.

The vocals and instrumentals were on point and we were graced with a very inclusive set list that catered to both old and new fans. “This Was a Home Once,” a very new single released on October 6th was performed with the skill and confidence of the classic, “Cardiac Arrest,” one of the band’s most popular songs to date. Front man, Christo Bowman, expertly communicated with the crowd, making sure to acknowledge both seasoned and new fans.

This was the fourth time I have had the pleasure of seeing this group perform and as always, they were spectacular. This was the perfect first show to bring my sister to and surely made her into a lifelong lover of live music. Check out our in-depth interview with Christo, here.
